What Do I Do With Him 24 Hours a Day? Changes in the Housewife Role After Retirement

Abstract
The impact of the husbands retirement on the wife's conception of three aspects of her role as housewife was studied. Four hundred retired teachers and their wives were surveyed by questionnaire with a subsequent interview sample drawn from returned questionnaires. The major shift for women was toward increased accommodation to their husbands needs. The negative changes experienced by women were offset by increased opportunities for nurturing of spouse.
