Abstract
A detailed description of the osteology, the arthrology and the myology of the jaw ap- paratus of the pigeon (Columba livia, L., race White Carneau) has been made as a base to study the interaction between the morphology of the jaw apparatus and its func- tioning during ontogeny. The section on arthrology comprises a series of elements not described earlier. These are the Lig. palatomaxillare, the Lig. quadratosphenoidale and the Lig. quadratotemporale. Also the sections on osteology and myology com- prise many features additional to earlier descriptions. For example a description of the aponeurotic complex, comprising three aponeurotic slips, through which the Musc. adductor mandibulae externus originates was not made earlier.
