Abstract
Previously it was shown that pain producing stimuli release intracellular K. In these experiments release of intracellular K is produced by in vitro distention of the intestinal tract of the guinea pig. This effect is decreased when the bathing fluid contains non-narcotic analgesic agents (acetanilide, phenacetin, aminopyrine) in pharmacological concentrations. The release of K on exposing washed human erythrocytes to cold is similarly inhibited by these agents.
