Abstract
In a study of the platelet adhesiveness and clot retraction time in 500 patients, it was found that an elevated adhesiveness and a rapid clot retraction time were present in a variety of pathologic states. Abnormal values were demonstrated in patients with the following conditions: postoperative, posttraumatic, benign and malignant neoplasms, leukemia, polycythemia, granulating wounds, chromic dermatologic diseases, liver cirrhosis, thrombophlebitis and ACTH therapy. A hypothesis was suggested that a feature common to many of these diseases is an abnormally rapid growth of tissue. No relation was found between changes in the platelet adhesiveness, clot retraction time and thromboembolic phenomena. Keywords
