Measurement of the magnetic dipole moment ofβ-emittingAl25by use of a polarized proton beam and nuclear magnetic resonance detection

Abstract
Polarized β-emitting Al25 nuclei (Iπ=52+, T12=7.2 sec) were produced in the reaction Si28(p,α)25Al in a thick single crystal of Si which served as host for the implanted Al25 nuclei. The net polarization transferred to the Al25 nuclei was detected by measuring the asymmetry in the β-decay. The magnetic dipole moment of Al25 was measured by nuclear magnetic resonance destruction of the polarization. Including the diamagnetic correction, we obtain μ=[3.6455(12)]μN.
