Abstract
The study in this issue of the Journal by Craddock and his colleagues provides an explanation for a problem first encountered a number of years ago: patients undergoing hemodialysis experience a transient neutropenia, in some cases accompanied by cardiopulmonary symptoms.1 2 3 Although leukopenia and thrombocytopenia had been noted during hemodialysis,2 it was Kaplow and Goffinet4 who called attention to the regular occurrence of neutropenia in these patients.
