Abstract
Memory‐based text processing (MBP) is a label that has been used to refer to a theoretical perspective shared by contributors to this special issue. My objectives in this article are (a) to define the domain addressed by MBP; (b) to identify the major, shared assumptions of researchers representing the MBP perspective; and (c) to raise some challenges for MBP researchers.
