Abstract
Mechanical properties of lungs in normal men over 60 years old were compared to normal men under 40. Dynamic lung compliance was significantly greater in the older subjects. Transpulmonary pressures at full lung inflation were greater in the younger group. Airway resistance was high and conductance/volume ratios were lower in the older men. Changes of pulmonary physiological parameters with age in men may be secondary to increased pulmonary compliance in the elderly. Keywords
