The Therapist's Voice

Abstract
Every person alive has demons—old pain, new pain—demons that gnaw at the soul in the dark of the night. People with eating disorders seek therapy when this darkness becomes too deep, too bleak, too much to bear; when deep psychic pain is expressed in the body and in the words “I feel fat.” The healing journey offers me, as well as my patients, the ongoing possibility of entering the darkest places of the soul, for when we touch another's pain, ours, too, is touched.
