Abstract
We investigate the excitation of positive ions by charged-particle impact in the Coulomb Born approximation. We obtain closed-form expressions for the and amplitudes and present numerical results for the corresponding excitation cross sections. We also indicate how the matrix elements may be used to calculate excitation and ionization cross sections for many-electron ions.
