Abstract
The distribution of Na and water in normal muscle and in muscle removed from rabbits'' legs subjected to severe cold injury is reported. In 6 rabbits anesthetized with dial, the leg was immersed for 3 min. in a water-alcohol-ethylene glycol mixture at [long dash] 55 [degree]C. Blood samples and muscle samples from the normal and injured legs were taken 166-225 min. after injury. Water and Na detns. were made on samples of plasma and muscle. The gain of water by muscle after cold injury was 5-60%. The Na increase was 30% in one animal and 237-697% in the other 5. This disproportion between Na and water shows that Na is being redistributed. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
