Abstract
The literature of post-traumatic osteolysis of the acromial end of the clavicles is reviewed. Seven new cases are reported, one with post-mortem examination of the acromio-clavicular region. The patients usually feel pain during movements of the affected arm, the symptoms disappear by the end of one or two years, but might reappear after minor trauma. Radiographic findings include tapering of the clavicle and an increased acromio-clavicular distance. Problems of differential diagnosis are discussed. The common finding of a dilated pupil on the affected side might be of pathogenic importance. Increased care in radiographic procedures and treatment in cases of acromio-clavicular dislocation is advised.
