Abstract
The method generally used in separating adenine from guanine by their different solubilities in dilute ammonia is unreliable because adenine is not soluble enough in neutral or weakly alkaline solns. to allow a quantitative separation. The author therefore detd. the total purine bases (in yeast nucleic acid) before and after destruction of guanine by K permanganate in acid solution, which leaves adenine intact.
