PSEUDOHEMOPHILIA: REPORT OF 13 NEW CASES AND STATISTICAL REVIEW OF PREVIOUSLY REPORTED CASES

Abstract
The bleeding manifestations and laboratory data in 199 reported patients with pseudohemophilia are reviewed. This disorder is characterized by a bleeding tendency and a prolonged bleeding time. The prothrombin consumption test was abnormal in half of the 24 cases in which this test was done. The mechanism of the defect in hemostasis is uncertain and may not be the same in all cases. The cases may not all represent a single entity. Although bleeding episodes are common, the outlook for life is relatively good despite the lack of satisfactory specific therapy.
