Abstract
A considerable body of evidence suggests increasing levels of violence among psychiatric inpatients. The literature on the subject is reviewed, highlighting correlates of violence among psychiatric patients and methodological flaws in the published literature. Improvement in the definition of violence and the methodology as well as future areas of research are discussed. Keywords
