Abstract
AN editorial in the January 27 issue of the Journal reported on the large number of laboratory tests made when a healthy woman was hospitalized for surgical treatment of varicose veins. More than a dozen tests were performed, including assay of the serum for lactic dehydrogenase and oxalacetic transaminase. In addition she had an electrocardiogram, and also an x-ray film of the chest although she had had a recent film at her place of employment.
