Control of the Stem Borer Bactra verutana on Cyperus papyrus

Abstract
Larvae of the oleuthreutid moth Bactra verutana Zeller feed on the leaves and bore into the stems and crown of Cyperus papyrus, a popular landscaping plant in southern California. Effective control on plants grown in 6-in. (1-gal) cans was obtained with a drenching spray of dimethoate (0.5 lb dimethoate/100 gal) and ¼ teaspoonful of 5% phorate granules per can.
