Resistance of Experimental Cotton Strain 1514 to the Bollworm and Cotton Fleahopper123

Abstract
Resistance of a glabrous and nectary-free experimental cotton (strain 1514) to insect attack was evaluated in field experiments in Texas and Mississippi. Significantly lower populations of the boll worm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), and cotton flea hopper, Psallus seriatus (Reuter), were found on this cotton than on commercial varieties. In practical application the degree of insect suppression achieved could delay the need for insecticidal control, thus reducing the adverse effects of insecticides on parasites and predators.
