Abstract
A fine‐structure analysis is presented of part of the ``α''‐band of formaldehyde which lies at λ3700. It is shown that the ``α''‐band and the ``A'' band of formaldehyde which lies at λ3530 have neither the upper nor the lower state in common. It is also shown that the lower state of the ``α''‐band is one in which one quantum of the antisymmetric vibration ν6″ is excited. The vibrational structure of the fluorescence system is discussed in the light of these results.
