Abstract
In order to study the mechanisms of the charge production and storage of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) electrets, thermally stimulated currents (TSC) and the effect of the atmosphere during polarization have been measured. By employing TSC measurement with the "contactless electrode" as well as the conventional "contact electrode" method, the three kinds of charges, i.e. a homocharge, a heterocharge due to dipole orientation and a heterocharge due to ionic charge drift have been observed separately. The relation between the trap of the homocharge and the primary dispersion, and the behaviour as the pyroelectricity of the electret have also been observed. The results on the effect of the atmosphere during polarization show that the homocharge may be produced by the discharge in the air gap between the polymer and the electrode. Keywords
