Abstract
The profitable economic management of each branch of the national economy, of an industrial association or enterprise, is an indispensable and very important feature of total cost accounting as a system of economic relations of socialist enterprises with one another and with society as a whole. It is a necessary prerequisite not only to expanded reproduction but to simple reproduction as well. An enterprise that does not fully meet all of its expenses from the sale of its products (or from the performance of services) "devours" the funds allocated to it by the government and becomes the government's "dependent" in that it operates at the expense of the net income of other enterprises. Is such a situation normal or admissible under socialism?
