Noninactivation of TSH by Dog Thyroid Tissuein Vitro

Abstract
Several hormones are rapidly inactivated by their target tissues, allowing a finely modulated response to the hormonal signal. We tested whether this was the case for TSH in the thyroid gland. After a 2 hr incubation of a low concentration of TSH with dog thyroid slices, there is no loss of the thyrotropic activity, as measured by its stimulatory effect on iodide binding to proteins by dog thyroid slices. Unlike other protein hormones, TSH is not inactivated in vitro by its main target tissue. (Endocrinology93: 1227, 1973)
