Abstract
The susceptibility-temperature relation for the antiferromagnetic compound MnSe was measured over a range of temperatures between 70°C and -196°C. Evidence was found of a large thermal hysteresis and a dependence of susceptibility on field strength. A tentative theory is advanced to explain the thermal hysteresis in terms of three phases which possess different susceptibilities. Keywords
