Diagnostic Significance of Abdominal Murmurs

Abstract
ABDOMINAL murmurs have been reported as occurring in renal-artery stenosis associated with hypertension1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and also over enlarged spleens,10 with tortuous splenic arteries,11 tumors of the liver,12 , 13 carcinoma of the pancreas14 , 15 and abdominal arteriovenous aneurysms.16 A characteristic venous hum frequently accompanies cirrhosis of the liver.13 It is always assumed that abdominal murmurs are absent under normal conditions, and their presence is taken as a sign of abnormality.
