This exp. was planned to check the work of C. R. Griffith which seemingly showed the inheritance of equilibratory disorders caused by extended rotation of rats. Dorcus sought to learn what the effect would be when lateral movements were possible and whether or not the disturbance was pathological. The revolving cage employed was divided into 2 compartments, a central one 3^ feet in diam. and one on the periphery 3 in. wide. 6 white rats 120 days old were placed in each compartment and given almost continuous counter clockwise rotation for 8 weeks. No permanent disturbances in equilibration were found. Another group of animals was rotated at the rate of 60 revolutions per min. for approx. 8 weeks. 2 of these animals developed an ear disease, the others were not affected and developed no disturbances during 2 months of post-exp. observations.
