Abstract
Welders using unprotected electrodes are exposed to a dust with a particle size less than 1 micron, which is deposited in the alveoli throughout the lung except in the apex. This dust is composed of Fe2O3, 97%, with traces of Fe. It does not cause fibrosis as does silicosis. X-ray findings are illustrated and described. Dust from protected electrodes contains 65-75% Fe2O3, 20% silica, and traces of Mn2O3, and involves the hazard of silicosis. Ample ventilation and medical supervision are recommended. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
