Gastritis — Gastroscopic and Microscopic

Abstract
We have compared the appearances of the gastric mucosa at gastroscopy with the histological findings in 130 biopsies from 56 patients. There was a fairly consistent correlation between well recognised appearances and the microscopic findings. When the mucosa appeared abnormal this was nearly always confirmed microscopically but one third of apparently normal mucosa showed gastritis. Antral gastritis which appeared mild on gastroscopy, was deep and often severe on microscopy. Serial sections are necessary to evaluate gastritis effectively. Bei 130 Biopsien von 56 Patienten wurde der endoskopische Aspekt der Magenschleimhaut mit dem histologischen Befund korreliert. Dabei ließ sich eine relativ gute Übereinstimmung erzielen. Sah die Schleimhaut pathologisch aus, ließ sich dies immer auch histologisch bestätigen. Auf der anderen Seite fand sich bei einem Drittel der Patienten mit makroskopisch unauffälliger Schleimhaut histologisch eine Gastritis. Bei einer endoskopisch als geringgradig eingestuften Gastritis des Antrums waren die histologischen Veränderungen häufig sehr stark ausgeprägt. Für die histologische Beurteilung der Gastritis in der Biopsie werden Stufenschnitte gefordert.
