Intramedullary Lipoma of the Spinal Cord

Abstract
Spinal cord lipomas constitute 1% of all kinds of tumors and have a predilection for the cervico-thoracic junction area. The etio-logical theories are presented and the previous cases surveyed. If any syndrome can be described it would include a long history of symptoms including ataxia, paucity of root pains, lack of spinal fluid block until very late, and widening of the spinal canal radio-graphically. An illustrative case is presented in which the true intramedullary character of this case was established. When the tumor is intramedullary, thorough decompression seems the treatment of choice.
