Abstract
Three "modes" of code elaboration were hypothesized to exist within the functional components of the semantic system which are realized through corresponding elements within the lexicogrammar. Principal components analysis of these elements in the monologue speech of a sample of teachers revealed an array of factors interpretable in terms of the hypothesized modes. Keywords
