Abstract
A novel method of nuclear isopentenylation which gives exclusively 2,2-dimethylchromans has been achieved by the direct condensation of phenols, viz. resorcinol, quinol, pyrogallol, and phloroglucinol, with 2-methylbuta-1,3-diene(isoprene) in the presence of orthophosphoric acid as catalyst. Condensation of 2-methylbut-3-en-2-ol with phenols in the presence of aqueous citric acid has been reinvestigated. Keywords
