Abstract
A comparison was made of the response of 6 dogs, with and without amytal anesthesia, to the continuous intravenous injection of glucose at the rate of 4 gm. per kgm. of body weight per hour for 3-4 hours. Each animal receiving amytal (iso-amyl ethyl barbituric acid) showed greater hyperglycemia, a marked increase of glycosuria and a slightly greater fair of pH than in control experiments on the same animal. No marked effect on the R. Q. or heat production (indirect calori-metry) was noted. It is concluded that an animal under amytal anesthesia does not exhibit its normal carbohydrate metabolism. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
