Abstract
The author presents detailed information on traditional methods, the majority of which remain in use, for the recognition, prevention and treatment of the principal infectious diseases prevalent on the African continent. The information provided relates to the observations and practices of peoples in three main regions, namely West, East and Southern Africa. Data are presented for ten diseases of major importance, with the widest range of practices being recorded for the control of foot and mouth disease, rinderpest and anthrax.Keywords
