Abstract
The crystal structure of (H3O)[Al3(H2PO4)6(HPO4)2] · 4 H2O contains layers consisting of AIO6 octahedra which share vertices with O2P(OH)2 and O3P(OH) tetrahedra. Within these layers there are vacancies (hollows) which are occupied by H3O+ species. Water molecules are fixed between neighbouring layers by hydrogen bonds. The identity of some other related phosphates is discussed with respect to the crystal structure described in this paper.
