Abstract
A specific 5[image]-nucleotidase acting only on 5[image]-adenylic and 5[image]-inosinic acid but not on 2[image]-adenylic, 3[image]-adenylic, yeast cytidylic, yeast uridylic, and yeast guanylic acids, 2[image], 5[image]-diphosphoadenosine and 3[image], 5[image]-diphosphoadenosine was found in a pyrimidine-oxidizing bacterium isolated from soil. A brief discussion of the properties of this enzyme was included. This organism also contains a ribonuclease which splits RNA to 5[image]-nucleotides.
