Abstract
The K-M metabolimeter is now being used extensively in measuring the physical activities of military personnel. This paper describes the use of this meter, the problems of calibration and diffusion of the respiratory gases, the newer modifications for simplification of the measurements, and the total errors that are anticipated in its use. Data are presented from various military studies in which the energy cost of various physical activities have been measured and calculated in calories/minute.
