Pregnancy Diagnosis in the Sow

Abstract
A chemical test for pregnancy based on the increased excretion of estrogen in the urine between the 26th and 30th days of pregnancy was evaluated on 93 sows during two breeding seasons. Of 70 animals diagnosed pregnant, 67 gave birth to litters or had fetuses present in the uterus. Of 23 animals diagnosed as open, six were pregnant. The overall accuracy of the test was 90.3%.
