Abstract
This article presents a comprehensive theory that we have recently developed on the electrostatic variables which control the uniformity and the efficiency of powder coating deposition. Uniformity affects the aesthetics; efficiency the economy. These two factors are greatly influenced by the electrostatic variables of the powder particles and the spray conditions. Experimental methods for measuring the various electrostatic quantities are developed and used to verify the theoretical analyses. The present theory provides a basis for improving and optimizing the electrostatic characteristics of powder coatings, spray equipment, and spray conditions.
