Xylem differentiation in inhibited cotyledonary buds of soybeans

Abstract
Inhibited buds in the cotyledonary axils of soybeans were shown to possess xylem strands passing from the main stem into the bud. The degree of xylem strand development was comparable to that of the actively growing apical bud. It is concluded that the inhibition of cotyledonary buds is not related directly to the lack of xylem differentiation.
