Presentation of CaseA three-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital because of pancytopenia.He was well until two weeks earlier, when he became less active, with intermittent fever with a temperature as high as 38.9°C. Anorexia and vomiting developed. A physician made a tentative diagnosis of otitis media and prescribed amoxicillin, without improvement. Several days before admission the parents noticed periorbital petechiae. On the day of entry laboratory studies disclosed pancytopenia.
