3-Hydroxymethylpyridin, ein neues Stoffwechselprodukt der Mycobakterien

Abstract
Another bromcyan-posi-tive substance in addition to nicotinic acid was isolated from the culture filtrate of Mycobacterium bovis strain BCG and identified as 3-hydroxy-methylpyridine. This pyridine derivative is also an excretory product of other Mycobacterium spp. 3-hydroxymethylpyridine is closely associated with the metabolism of nicotinic acid. Added nicotinic acid is absorbed by the BCG bacteria and converted to S-hydroxynethyl-pyridine.
