Abstract
Apteropanorpa evansi, sp. n., from the Central Plateau of Tasmania, is described and several of its taxonomically useful characters are illustrated. It is compared with Apteropanorpa tasmanica Carpenter, the only other species in the family Apteropanorpidae. Some characters used by Carpenter are re‐evaluated, and probable generic characters are derived from the descriptions of both species. What little is known of the biology and distribution of the genus is summarised, and convergent similarities in morphology and biology with the Northern Hemisphere Boreidae are noted. Tasmania probably harbours further undescribed Apteropanorpa spp. Keywords
