Abstract
Toluidine Blue O injected intravenously into pyloric ligated Sprague-Dawley rats, appeared in gastric contents within 1 minute. The dye introduced into the gastric lumen was absorbed and appeared in the urine and small intestinal contents. The dye continued to be excreted in the urine despite a rapid disappearance from the blood. The influence of fasting, body weight and pyloric and bile duct ligation on the recovery of Toluidine Blue from gastric contents was also investigated. A maximum recovery of 2.6% from the stomach of a pyloric ligated animal and 5.2% from a non-ligated animal was observed. Continuous collection might result in a more favorable secretion. The application of this study to gastric carcinogenesis is discussed. Keywords
