Abstract
A series of physiol. measurements were made on 133 purebred dogs of 5 breeds. Systolic blood pressure, heart period, cardiac arrhythmia, pupil diam., maximum pupil contraction and rectal temp. were all found to differ significantly between breeds. Rectal temp. was significantly higher in males. The results are due to accidental selection in genetic isolates. They do not support the notion of generalized sympathetic or parasympathetic dominance.
