Abstract
Cavitation erosion on aluminium in water flow during the very first part of the incubation period is examined. The erosion is studied by scanning electron microscopy and by optical microscopy. The material damage caused by collapse of single cavities is correlated to the cavities observed during the erosion experiments and to theoretical models of cavity collapse. The development of the erosion process during the initial stage is discussed. Keywords
