Abstract
The intensity quenching operated by the dynamical Jahn-Teller effect on the components of a spin-orbit-split zero-phonon line has been investigated. Comparison with experiment allows for the evaluation of the important microscopic energies entering the problem. The method has been successfully applied to KMgF3:V2+ to find the Jahn-Teller energy and the vibrational quantum of the Jahn-Teller active modes. The validity of the cluster model is discussed. Keywords
