Diagnosing Difficulties in Learning Basic Math Facts

Abstract
Though most learning disabilities appear to concern reading, many children possess difficulties in mastering the basic math facts. The authors describe a specific procedure which they have found useful in teaching children with arithmetic disabilities. While no supporting data regarding the effectiveness of this procedure are available, the method is described in sufficient detail so that interested practitioners can experiment with it. Comments from our readers on the utility of the procedure and on this type of article in general would be appreciated by the editorial staff of the Journal.—G.M.S.
