Abstract
SUMMARY The initial velocity of sporangia discharged by a strain of Pilobolus kleinii was measured with an oscilloscope by two methods. In the first method, the interval between successive interruptions of two beams of light was timed. In the second method, phonograph cartridge transducers were used to signal the discharge and impact of sporangia. The initial velocity of 100 sporangia ranged from 4.7 to 27.5 m/sec, with a mean of 10.8 m/sec, and there was little correlation between the diameter and velocity of sporangia. Keywords
