Abstract
A lamellated body showing a peculiar inner pattern is observed with the electron microscope within the cytoplasm of the bat pigment epithelium. The inner pattern of the body resembles a Japanese bamboo blind. The unit paired membranes of the body are continuous with the membranes of the surrounding smooth-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum. The finding suggests that the structure is a specialized component of the endoplasmic reticulum. Keywords
