Abstract
In a review of perspectives from law, medical ethics, and psychosocial research, the importance and multi-disciplinary nature of autonomy issues in long term care are emphasized and the background of the Retirement Research Foundation's Personal Autonomy in Long Term Care Initiative is clarified. Participants in the grant program's first phase focus on a variety of autonomy and decision-making issues for frail and impaired elderly in articles in this special Supplal volume.
