Abstract
It is shown that for a wide class of space–times the four coordinates may be chosen in a completely symmetric way. Such symmetric coordinates have the same causal nature in that they are all measured by the same type of prescription involving clocks and/or measuring rods. In these coordinate systems the metric tensor is invariant with respect to any permutation of the coordinate labels 0, 1, 2, 3.Keywords
